Class 3 Podium complete
Elixir, the Elan 380, sailed by Flic Gabbay and Roger Barber finished at 12.07 UTC on Sunday to confirm second place in class 3 both on the water and handicap. The Lymington based team showed all their experience, building on a very good result in the Round Britain race in 2010 in only the second season with this new boat.
Second place in class 3 was in the balance for most of Sunday afternoon as Truant threatened to snatch the prize from Elixir, but the dreaded calms in early evening on the south of the island dramatically slowed Steve Thomas in the HOD 35 to creep over the line at midnight Sunday. Never the less Steve will be very satisfied with his first solo
ocean race.
Comedy of Errors , Sam White and Richard Raistrick, was always in the hunt for third, swapping places with Truant several times in the last three days but the calms trapped the HOD 35 at the west end of the island until 06.03 UTC on Monday morning.
Class 3 IRC Outward leg (Provisional); 1 Taika, 2 Elixir, 3 Truant, 4 Comedy of Errors.
