Helmut was born in 1967. He sailed from the early days with his parents who run a boatyard at the Baltic Sea. His sailing career started on an Optimist which was followed by other dinghy classes. He was 11month member of the Sailing Crew of the German Navy Tall Ship Gorch Fock. Since 1990 he is sailing his own yachts. Today this is the Elan 37 FEEX. He competed in all big German sailing events like Kiel Week and North-Sea week and participated successfully in several German championships. Together with Horst he participated in double-handed races like Watski Skagerrak Two Star. In the season 2006 they were the best double handed team in Germany. With one Atlantic crossing he carries a lot of salty waters in his old bones.
